The Breastplate:
In our opinion, breastplates are indispensable when it comes to the safety of you and your horse. Enough of a safety concern, that we want to share a story with you.

Years ago, Candace Kahn (owner of Action Rider Tack) was on an endurance ride without a breastplate. On a significant hill, the horse stumbled, Candace slipped and pulled the saddle to the side of the horse as she fell off. As her terrified horse galloped away, the saddle continued to slip under the horse's belly further terrorizing her. It was many hours later when her horse was found standing in a river with significant injuries. The horse was nurtured back to health, but her riding days had passed.

To this day, Candace will not ride without a breastplate as she is fully aware that the use of a breastplate would have prevented her saddle from slipping so far on her horse. Please stay safe.

The Martingale:
Martingales are used to temper the horse's head carriage above a particular height. Some riders find that with a "feistier" horse, a running martingale or German martingale can give them greater control of the horse's head until riding manners are learned.

(At Action Rider Tack, we do not carry standing martingales, as the greater restriction has been found to be quite dangerous to the horse.)
