| These eye-catching browbands are handmade in Kenya by the Maasai women. They live about ten+ miles away from the community of Karn (the outskirts of Nairobi) in various manyattas (villages). The group consists of 65 women, who use their superb beading skills, fitting this work in with all their other domestic tasks - which is challenging without the benefits of modern conveniences. Beads and leather are monitored very closely, going out and coming in - quality control is meticulous. 3 women work full-time in the workshop just allocating beads in specific amounts. The sturdy leather is finished and lined, cleaned and polished, and even ironed, etc. by several skilled men - these are members of the 13-person team who spend full time in the workshop. While general colors have been allotted to help you with your choice, and grouped together, your choice may vary from the picture provided, above, but will be very similar.
