Myler Bits English Dee with Hooks MB05 Myler Bits English Dee with Hooks MB05 is a wide port comfort snaffle. It allows for room for the tongue and there is little pressure on the horse's palate. It is a D shaped ring with fixed attachment of the mouthpiece and slots "hooks" at the top and bottom of the ring for the bridle and rein attachment. There is a small hole behind the top slot for a curb chain. When the rein hook is used it is an indirect action bit. If the rein hook is not used it is direct action. You choose where to attach the bridle and reins.
Attaching the headstall to the top hook holds the bit in the correct position instead of allowing it to slide around the bridle cheeks. Attaching the reins to the hooks allows the rider to lift the cheek and use the Independent Side Movement of the mouthpiece. Using hooks does not add leverage.

Myler Bits Level 3
Stainless Steel 3 3/4" Dee with Hooks with Stainless Steel Medium Wide Port Comfort Snaffle (MB 05, Level 3) Copper Inlay.
The MB05 is one of the mildest Myler mouthpieces in terms of tongue pressure. The generously wide port allows room for the tongue to pass under the bit so the horse can swallow. The 05 collapses slightly which gives the mouthpiece more give. It works primarily off the bars, lips, chin, and poll. The low port will apply little to no palate pressure. A horse that is trained to work off the leg and seat as well as the hands does well with this mouthpiece.
The addition of hooks to the cheek offers more versatility. Attaching the headstall to the top hook holds the bit in position instead of allowing it to slide around the bridle cheeks. Attaching the reins to the rein hooks allows the rider to lift the cheek
.
A curb chain or strap is recommended for ported mouthpieces.
