Myler Bits English Dee with Hooks MB06 The Myler Bits English Dee with Hooks MB06 has a center barrel piece that allows the bit to have independent side movement. The low wide port provides ample room for the tongue. It is a D shaped ring with fixed attachment of the mouthpiece and slots "hooks" at the top and bottom of the ring for the bridle and rein attachment. When the rein hook is used it is an indirect action bit. If the rein hook is not used it is direct action. You chose where to attach bridle and reins. There is a small hole behind the top slot for a curb chain which is recommended for bits with ported mouth pieces.
Attaching the headstall to the top hook holds the bit in the correct position instead of allowing it to slide around the bridle cheeks. Attaching the reins to the hooks allows the rider to lift the cheek and use the Independent Side Movement of the mouthpiece. Using hooks does not add leverage.

Myler Bit Level 2-3
Stainless Steel 3 3/4" Dee with Hooks with Stainless Steel Mullen Barrel Low Port (MB 06, Level 2-3) Copper Inlay.
The MB06 is the Myler alternative to the traditional mullen mouthpiece. It has a wider low port that allows the tongue to pass under the bit with comfort. The port is just high enough to allow the tongue to elevate and swallow, but not high enough for palate pressure. The lower port does restrict the tongue more than other level 2-3 Myler mouthpieces. When the reins are engaged, the 06 applies pressure primarily to the bars and lips. This mouthpiece has Independent Side Movement.

The addition of hooks to the cheek offers more versatility. Attaching the headstall to the top hook holds the bit in position instead of allowing it to slide around the bridle cheeks. Attaching the reins to the rein hooks allows the rider to lift the cheek.
A curb chain or strap is recommended for ported mouthpieces.
